Emperor Trajan Retopo

This is a retopo model I did on a scan of the Emperor Trajan sculpture. This was an extra-credit project I had my students do near the end of the block. I really like the shapes/features on this sculpt and he has hair so it’s a good test to see if students learned how to re-route edge-flow.
The hard part of doing a retopo from a scanned sculpture is that it’s not symmetrical, so you have to do each side separate.
This is what I believe is “Proper Topology” for a face: loops around the eyes, loops around the mouth, and nasal-folds. Hold edges where creases are needed and evenly spaced topology in non-creased areas. All 5 sided vertices stars are in the proper place to not interfere with deformations and model is all quads.
Made in Modo.
